Simcha Sasson and Legions of [Pre-Gog?]
Guest Post by: Klishlishi
"Beware lest you be found fighting against the L-rd!".
The Rambam states that defending the borders of Eretz Yisrael against invasion comes under the category of a Milchemes Mitzva - an Obligatory War - "wherein EVERYONE goes out to battle, even a bridegroom from out of his nuptial chamber....!"
And if ever there was a Milchemes Mitzva today, it is defending the borders of the State of Israel, the G-d-given home of 6 million Jews.
That Haredim have been averse to joining Zahal until now can be partly understood: "A man is drawn after his surroundings" (Talmud), and many an idealistic Torah Zionistic youth has emerged from his 3 years in Zahal stripped of his observance and emunah forever.
But the success of the recently formed Nahal Haredi batallions, where the ideology, kashrus, shabbos observance and tzniyus of Orthodox soldiers are catered for, shows what can be achieved.
Yet the "gedolim" of this generation are opposing the demands that Haredim be compulsorily conscripted with the same "yeharog v'al ya'avor" fervour that the Chazon Ish rightly opposed Ben Gurion's demand that Frum girls be conscripted in 1950: "not one yeshiva bochur will be allowed to be conscripted in to Zahal as a korbon! (Rav Steinman).
Hashem allows his Honor to be m'challel: "Who is like You amongst the silent O L-rd?". But He does not overlook m'challel Torah (Talmud Yerushalmi). And even worse: He does not overlook the chillul of lack of common sense. That the Erev Rav (Mixed Multitude) leaders of Israel are forcing the issue of conscription just at this time, in the possibly portentous Zohar's years of 72 and 73, and the lack of common sense response in calling for a "One Million Man Haredi March" for Av 1, makes one wonder if the Haredim may not just have amongst them an aspect of the be Erev Katan (Mixed Minitude), but even shades of Gog and Magog, and even an angle of Amalek! The Vilna Gaon in Kol HaTor placed much emphasis on the End Time significance of the conflict between the Mixed Multitude and the Mixed Minitude in his commentary on the case of the heretics "Simcha and Sasson" (Talmud Sukka).
The fact is that those Haredim who don't study Torah full-time, which is most of them, would make disciplined, brave and ruthless soldiers, and the fact that they are being so studiously forbidden to participate in the mitzvah of Milchemes Mitzvah, and thereby emboldening the deadly surrounding Ishmaelitic foes, makes one wonder if there are forces at work, consciously or unconsciously, to bring down the State of Israel and end the Zionist enterprise, even if it means everyone perishing or a Third Exile: it goes that deep!
Rosh Chodesh Av: The Final Real Mincha Gedola Vadai of 5772!
Excellent!

ReplyDeleteI am afraid to say it, but if the 2008 Merkaz Harav yeshivah massacre of knitted white kippot boys had instead taken place in Mirrer Yeshiva in Jerusalem or Ponovezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, and it had been 20 black-velveted kippot boys that had been slain by an Arab, we wouldn't be in this situation, and the Zahal recruitment halls would be overflowing every year with thousands of Haredi volunteers.
ReplyDeleteNahal charedei is right now I believe limited to 2 battalions . If an iron clad obligation is put in place that Every charedei that enters the army will have a nahal charedei framework then the gedolim would have an easier time compromising ,but the way it is now how can anyone trust the secular's that all the chareidim that enter will be in a kosher environment.
