Atheist In Heaven - Does It Matter?

SCOTS scientist Professor Peter Higgs has urged the public to stop calling the Higgs boson the “God particle” – because he is an atheist. The scientist came up with the theory of a sub-atomic particle, since dubbed the Higgs boson, which would explain the mystery of how things have mass. But he wants people to stop referring to it as the “God particle” because he does not believe the particle holding the physical fabric of the universe together is the work of an almighty creator. 

Prof Higgs, 83, who lives in Edinburgh, said: “First of all, I’m an atheist. The second thing is, I know that name was a kind of joke and not a very good one. I think he shouldn’t have done that as it’s so misleading.” The phrase, an allusion to the particle’s importance and elusiveness, was coined for a popular science book from 1993 by Leon Lederman, a Nobel prize-winning physicist, and Dick Teresi, a science writer. 

In the book God particle, Lederman writes: “Why God particle? The publisher wouldn’t let us call it the Goddamn particle.” Higgs has become a global celebrity over the past year since the discovery of a particle consistent with the Higgs boson, which he predicted in 1964

The Truth! [Well, almost, captain]







In Klippah, unlike horseshoes, "Almost" usually is enough to get the job done.

Take Yishmael for example; his approach to "religion" and source of his claims to land is his belief that he is close, close enough even, and that equates to victory.

While Israel is in Galus, the "essence" of Torah is somewhat tainted, awaiting the revelation of Torat Moshiach to clarify matters where doubt has arisen, or where the Truth has remained buried within Torat Moshe. This revelation is prophesied in Malachi as Torat Emes. In fact, in places in the Talmud where the Rabbis do not know an answer in a particular matter, the Talmud offers a phrase [in short form] called "Teiku" - "Tishbi [Elijah] will answer questions and difficulties." On that level, the Jewish People will have every tool necessary to perpetuate God's Eternal Rule.

Thus while in exile, there are a lot of areas in the Torah that remain subject for debate, areas that are vital to our existance, future, etc. Among the topics of interest: Biblical Borders [of Geulah], Torah of Geulah/Moshiach themselves, role of the gentile in the future, etc. Moshiach must clarify these matters, or at least the era of. [which per force then Moshiach would be a part of]

Yishmael says: God gave "a" Torah [which the Jews "distorted" he claims] but we don't know its absolute truth...yet neither do the Jews [he says]..so if they aren't on it, and "I" am close, I guess "I" win! This is klippah's strategy: if its not [yet] you, it must be me. [Klippah, i.e. impure people; with or affected by Amalek, the nation who seeks to destroy Holiness]

Every Wisdom or Truth is susceptible to an Amalekite attack, from Torah to science. The "Higgs Boson" search is one area that is famished with Amalekite infrastructure, due to the nature of the prize: being associated with the God Particle of Physics. It allows one to pasken out Creation[ism] while being soaked within his ego...all by being [and selling] "how close he is" while taking advantage of a reality that is not yet known or distinguishable. If this happens in science, it is unfortunate that it happens against Torah as well.






Scientists at Europe's CERN research centre said on Wednesday they may be able to definitively announce at a conference next March that they had discovered the elusive Higgs boson.

But they dismissed suggestions circulating widely on blogs and even in some science journals that instead of just one type of the elementary particle they might have found a pair.

CERN researchers said in July they had found what appeared to be the particle that gives mass to matter, as imagined and named half a century ago by theoretical physicist Peter Higgs. But they stopped short of saying for sure it was the Higgs boson, pending further research.

"The latest data we have on this thing we have been watching for the past few months show that it is not simply 'like a Higgs' but is very like a Higgs," said Oliver Buechmuller of the CMS team at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. "The way things are going, by the Moriond meeting we may be able to stop calling it Higgs-like and finally say it is the Higgs," he told Reuters, referring to the annual gathering which will take place at the Italian Alpine resort of La Thuile, 120 kms (75 miles) from CERN, on March 2-9.

Suggestions that there may be two Higgs, a particle that made formation of the universe possible after the Big Bang 13.7 billion years ago, emerged after a progress report by CERN scientists last week. Its definitive discovery that would almost certainly win a Nobel Prize.

Commentators, including one in the journal Scientific American, said differing measurements - so far unexplained - of the new boson's mass that were recorded by ATLAS - a parallel but separate research team to CMS at CERN, indicated there might be twin particles.

"That is quite an exaggeration," said Pauline Gagnon, a scientist with ATLAS. "The facts are so much simpler: we measure one quantity in two different ways and obtain two slightly different answers.

"However, when we combine all the information, we clearly get only one value. Since we have checked all other possibilities, it really looks like a statistical fluctuation. Such things happen." Buechmueller, whose CMS team found no such variation in their measurements, said he agreed there was no special relevance in the ATLAS discrepancy. "It will probably disappear when more data is in and analysed," he added.

The $10-billion Large Hadron Collider, a 27-km (17-mile) circular construct deep under the Franco-Swiss border, will shut down for some two years in February to allow a doubling of its power and its capacity to probe cosmic mysteries

Iran? Taking Forever - Higgs? Taking Forever...


It seems that everything involving impact towards "End of Days" scenarios is really inching along - not a whole lot of forward progress!

Time is speeding up while the affairs of the planet are forever slow! What is going on and where is it leading to?


Here for example, is the latest with the Higgs Boson God Particle. They have not found it by any means, yet only some acknowledge this fact; either way, once decided the impact is enormous in the physical plane of existence. That goes for all of the inyanim going on - Earth changing  - if there would just be a rendering of some sort!

This year has been an exciting time in the field of particle physics. A few months ago, scientists in China measured theta-13, a previously unknown mathematical parameter that helps explain neutrino oscillations.

In March, physicists from Fermilab analyzing old data from the defunct Tevatron particle accelerator announced they had discovered a promising hint of the Higgs boson. In February, the research director of CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, said that by the end of the year, “we will either know that a Higgs particle exists or have ruled out the existence of a Standard Model Higgs.”

Since that time there have been even more developments, the news of which has trickled down to the public in a confusing and ludicrously grandiose form. Since we have not yet covered these new advances, here is an update and explanation of what has happened in particle physics over the summer.

In order to confirm a discovery of the Higgs particle, the CERN scientists must achieve two goals. Goal #1 is to verify that there is in fact a particle with the mass they expect the Higgs to have. They do this by firing particles at each other, carefully controlling the energy with which they collide, and measuring the results of the collision. Goal #2 is to check that this particle behaves the way theory predicts – i.e., whether they’ve actually discovered the Higgs boson or some other particle that would call for a rethinking of the Standard Model of particle physics. This involves a lot more complex and long-winded analysis of data.

Early this year, the Fermilab scientists came close to realizing the first goal. The Higgs particle exists only fleetingly, and must be inferred from the presence of other particles it is likely to decay into. Analysis of the Tevatron data showed unusually high numbers of these particles in certain regions, indicating a Higgs with a mass between 115-135 gigaelectronvolts (we use GeV, a unit of energy, to measure the mass of the particles because, by Einstein’s famous equation, mass and energy are essentially the same quantity). This was consistent with the narrower range of 124-126 GeV suggested by preliminary data from the Large Hadron Collider.

The problem with the Tevatron result was that it was not statistically significant. That means that, assuming the Higgs boson did not exist, the probability of seeing these results by random background fluctuation alone was unacceptably high. The excesses measured by Tevatron were 2.2 standard deviations above background expectations. The accepted threshold for a discovery in particle physics is five standard deviations, or approximately a one in three million chance of seeing these results in a world with no Higgs boson.

On July 4 of this year, two CERN particle detecting experiments, ATLAS and CMS, made an announcement: they had discovered, with a significance of five standard deviations, a particle with a mass of around 125.3 GeV. It was a landmark moment in the history of physics, but it is still only half the battle: they have only achieved goal #1.

Goal #2 means more experiments and a hard slog through mountains of data. To this end, the Large Hadron Collider, which had been scheduled for a long shutdown at the end of the year, has had its run extended until February, 2013. It’s just the nature of these discoveries that they do not come in one instantaneous moment of clarity, especially not when the experiment is 27 kilometres (km) long and involves thousands of scientists.

If the Standard Model is definitively confirmed or ruled out, the implications, while far-reaching, will take quite some time to become clear. Various theories will become more or less tenable, long unanswered questions will be solved or superseded, and new questions will arise. The discovery of this particle, whatever it may turn out to be, is certainly important, but we should not blow it out of proportion. No fundamental secrets of the universe have been discovered, no fields of knowledge have been instantly built up or toppled in one fell swoop, and life continues much as it had been.








At least the iPhone 20 is due out soon - as technology certainly isn't putzing around!
And unfortunately, the World would seem to care more about an iPhone 20 than any of the issues that truly matter in this reality. Earth is an ironic arena of Life, that is for sure.

Yisrael: To Wrestle With God - AND PREVAIL!



The God Particle: the ultimate match between Man and The Divine.

It has been said that the God Particle was found, and now the real truth is beginning to come out to the open.

Chances are its real discovery is something that is completely non-scientific, but in a truthful way. Today's Physics is being blasted as having gone from scientific method to the pure speculative approach in models of THEORY.

But perhaps theory is not only the soup du jour, but the answer itself? What if the Higgs' proof of [mathematical] existence is due in part to the necessity of the revelation of consciousness. Meaning: the evidence that it exists, is the map of consciousness existing itself. This would be the ultimate expression of micro/macro with a hint of spirituality laced within. The Gra states that in the end, Physics and Kabalah will merge.

The Higgs proves Gravity in the universe. What if the universe IS consciousness then?! [as Torah seems to suggest, i.e. that in the beginning, God created light - would that then not be the God Particle? And as kabalah dictates light becomes Gashmi - is the secret of Creation; all is light in the eyes of kabalah, only it becomes physical.

With theories in kabalah, physics will soon easily merge with Torah, as physics is already in Torah, people just haven't realized it yet.

There is so much excitement at CERN centre about their having got the Higg’s Boson in their experiment. Obviously they have to succeed as they have sunk billions of dollars in their experiments to find the basic building blocks of our universe. Hurray! They tell us that they are 99.999% sure! Why not 100%, though is a million dollar question? The obliging media has gone to town already saying that the particle, which was originally called the Goddamn particle as the originator of this concept was an atheist. Peter Ware Higgs was a theoretical physicist and professor of physics at Edinburgh University. He was the one who gave the electroweak theory of mass for particles, in the 1960s especially of the W-Z Bosons, the most sought after particle in particle physics. American Nobel Laureate physicist, Leon Lederman coined the word “God particle” as his publisher did not like Goddamn particle of his choice.

Human consciousness talks about a collective expectation effect on some of these experiments where hundreds of minds intensely want to achieve the goal. Intention positivity is a known entity. The researchers have not seen the particle at all as the particles cannot be seen. They are talking about statistical circumstantial evidence of the God particle in CERN’s Large Hadron Collider where trillions of particles are colliding with one another. They are talking about raising the statistical possibility to five Sigma level of probability. That is not the same as seeing the particle. Carl Sagan wrote that “at the heart of science is an essential balance between two seemingly contradictory attitudes—openness to new ideas, no matter how bizarre and counterintuitive they may be, and the most ruthless sceptical scrutiny of all ideas, old and new. This is how deep truths are winnowed from nonsense.”

The next stumbling block would be to prove that the particle that they claim to have seen IS the God particle that they have promised to us. The collision of those particles have released enormous amount of energy in the CERN collider. If the particle releases energy then this particle cannot be the God particle, the building block of the universe. The God particle cannot lose energy. It has to stabilize the world. If, as they have shown in their experiment, their particle, which they claim is the God particle, has released so much energy it could not be the building block of our universe. In that case our world would have been destroyed millions of years ago. The universe has survived eight billion years so far. Therefore any particle to qualify to be the building block should be indestructible. Does the particle they claim to have found in the CERN reactor remain the same in mass and structure after releasing so much of energy? This does not seem likely. The CERN experiment has shown release of that kind of energy.

Now that we know that energy is just the vibrations of matter; the two are inseparable. In addition, all the energy that science knows today is just about 5% of matter. The large 95% is unknown to us. In this scenario any particle like the one they think as the fundamental building block could not be confirmed. All that we know of stars, galaxies and planets constitute just about 5% of matter. Where is the other matter?

The CERN scientists also tried to pull a long one on the gullible public by declaring that the God particle that they claim to have found would tell us about the origin of this world! This is an unscientific claim, to say the least. Clearly the road to find the fundamental building block of this universe is not going to be easy, if not impossible. The CERN route definitely is not the correct one as of now. Hawking’s predictions seem to be coming true that the God particle would never be found. One could always take shelter under the fact that Hawking as a cosmologist is only dealing with large things like the universe, while the particle physicists deal with subatomic particles that are so small that one of them can never comfortably talk about the other.

The right route would, perhaps be, to define energy as motion of particles. The two are inseparable. In that case the fundamental blocks, called the superstrings, with its nested generalised fractal structure, should be indestructible. Otherwise, our universe would perish sooner than later. All these and more could be incorporated into the Grand Unified Theory. However, not finding the God particle might be sad for Peter Higgs, as without that theoretical particle there will be no weight for mass. Particles would then be flying around at the speed of light. In fact, years ago when Stephen Hawking predicted that the God particle will never be found, Higgs was very much upset and he is said to have written an article criticizing Hawking in The Scotsman. Normally Higgs was always polite and gentlemanly but he seems to have been so much upset that he directly attacked Hawking in his article.

In this whole drama the thing we Indians could enjoy most is the rejuvenation of the word BOSON, named after Satyendranath Bose FRS, Padma Vibhushana, who was given the credit by a good friend and a contemporary physicist, Paul Dirac. Bose was a mathematical physicist who helped to develop the Bose-Einstein Statistics and the Bose-Einstein Condensate. Paul Dirac, a British physicist, named the particles which obeyed the Bose-Einstein statistics as Bosons. Those days Quantum kitchen helped the particle physicists to pull out hundreds of particles which remind one of the way a magician pulls out rabbits from his hat. That era has passed. The particle-wave confusion could be put to rest now for good. Has the much awaited God particle also succumbed to the famous Uncertainty Principle of Werner Heisenberg? Time only will tell us the truth. Any truth that science claims to find can only be A truth and never THE truth. Is God playing dice with the world?

Higgs Boson: To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before!



Finding the Higgs Boson could mean unlocking Physics' door - boldly going where no Man has gone before...

So where is Moshiach - before the World becomes like a bad Star Trek episode that is sponsored by Apple?!

Since its first appearance on the original "Star Trek" series in 1966, the starship Enterprise has become a symbol for space travel. Recently, an anonymous engineerclaimed that an approximation of this iconic ship could be built in the next two decades. But just how close is mankind to zipping through the stars at warp speed? On the website BuildTheEnterprise.org, a self-proclaimed engineer who identifies himself only as "BTE-Dan" suggests that a working facsimile of the iconic ship could be built and launched over the next 20 to 30 years. The ship would require a few modifications, but would look a great deal like Captain Kirk's famous ship.

Built in space, the ship would never visit the surface of any moon or planet, and so would never need to reach the high speeds necessary to escape surface gravity. The engines would be powered by nuclear reactors onboard the ship, and use argon rather than xenon for propellant, saving a few hundred billion dollars in cost. As an added bonus, BTE-Dan notes that argon can be mined from the atmosphere of Mars. Although such a ship would a lack a warp drive (the technology that allows the "Star Trek" version to zip between stars across the galaxy), it could reach the moon in three days and Mars in three months. BTE-Dan suggests it might function as a combination of a space station and a space port, allowing humans to orbit planets and moons within the solar system while using a "universal lander" to travel to and from their surfaces.

Such a spaceship could house 1,000 people within its gravity wheel. [The Top 10 Star Trek Technologies] The entire ship would be more than 3,000 feet (almost 1 kilometer) long, with its central disk making up nearly half its length. According to the website, much of the technology needed to build the ship described is within our grasp, including the rotating gravity wheel, which could be suspended by electromagnets within a vacuum to eliminate mechanical wear and tear. Also easily within reach, he claims, are a 1.5 GWe (gigawatt electrical) nuclear reactor safe to carry in a spacecraft, and composite materials that would save mass, add strength and improve radiation shielding.

Design challenges BTE-Dan describes himself as a systems and electrical engineer who has spent the past 30 years employed at a Fortune 500 company. He is presently declining interviews. Though the prospect of a real-life Enterprise is appealing, the proposed ship is not without problems. Adam Crowl, an engineer with Icarus Interstellar Inc., a nonprofit foundation dedicated to interstellar exploration, pointed out that a spaceship built with a sufficiently powerful nuclear reactor would need large thermal radiators, ruining the classic Enterprise look. "Engineering physics doesn't respect our aesthetics," he told SPACE.com by email. BTE-Dan's ship is essentially an iconic replica of the famous starship, and may not be practical. "I would love to see 1,000 people go to Mars, but I need convincing that they need to be on the Enterprise to do so," said Crowl. Other engineers said the similarities between BTE-Dan's ship and the Enterprise are only skin-deep. "He wants to build something using foreseeable technology that just looks like the Enterprise," said Marc Millis, an aerospace engineer at NASA's Glenn Research Center. "It's nowhere close to being what the Enterprise is."

Still, the site received so many visits soon after its launch that it crashed, revealing how appealing the idea is to many people. Today's technology Though some aspects of the Enterprise are far out of reach today, many are within our grasp, and some are part of our daily lives. Sliding doors, futuristic in the 1960s, now welcome almost every grocery store visitor, and today's flip-open cellphones resemble Star Trek's tricorders. The touch-screen devices ubiquitous today even look like those used in the 1990s episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation." "If you had shown someone an iPad in the 1990s and told them it was 23rd century technology, they would have believed you," Richard Obousy, co-founder and president of Icarus Interstellar Inc., told SPACE.com.

Advances with 3D printers also provide opportunities for voyages through space, allowing the replication of parts while using materials found at the destination. Andreas Hein, an aerospace engineer also with Icarus Interstellar, suggested that it might not be long before such printers make food similar to the way meals were synthesized by replicators on the Enterprise. Additionally, engineers working at NASA's Advanced Propulsion Physics Laboratory, informally known as Eagleworks, are working on a Q-thruster that bears a striking resemblance to the impulse engines on the Enterprise. Nuclear woes Millis suggested the next step in rocket propulsion will likely include utilizing a nuclear power source, an option that is stymied by the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.

He acknowledged that the barriers aren't just political ones, as people are nervous about the idea of launching nuclear rockets from Earth's surface, despite the fact that it could be done safely. Obousy agreed that nuclear rockets could provide the necessary thrust, pointing to the large, multibillion-dollar projects around the world seeking ways to unlock fusion as an energy source. Of course, such projects primarily focus on powering homes and cities on Earth, but once unlocked, fusion could be used to travel through the stars. [Gallery: Visions of Future Human Spaceflight] "In terms of propulsion technology, fusion engines are potentially within a generation or two," Obousy said, though he added that sudden technological jumps could accelerate the process. Visiting a planet without being seen may also be not too far out of reach. "We're doing things with meta-materials that'll allow practical cloaking, maybe even invisibility," Crowl said. Gravity presents one of the greatest challenges: The Enterprise of television and the movies lacks a gravity wheel, instead utilizing synthetic gravity. According to Millis, if we could find a way to master gravitational forces, such technology could also be utilized in tractor beams or the ship's propulsion. Warp speed ahead "Star Trek"-like propulsion remains a key problem.

Fans are familiar with the warp drive, which accelerated the ship faster than the speed of light and allowed its crew to zip between stars. Such travel defies our present understanding of physics. "I think this is one of the most important aspects that prevents an Enterprise-type ship in the near future," Hein said. Obousy agreed. "One of the staples of these warp drives is that they require an exotic form of energy that we have not been able to create in the labs, dark energy being the salient example," he said. Dark energy is the unexplained force behind the accelerated expansion of the universe. Scientists don't yet understand what it is, which makes it a challenge to use in propulsion. A warp drive would require an enormous amount of energy. Theoretical calculations using dark energy to move a starship would require more energy than that contained within the planet Jupiter, making it uneconomical.

  In the "Star Trek" universe, the warp drive relied on antimatter. When matter and antimatter annihilate one another, the energy produced is immense. Though such an energy source could conceivably power the ship, it is available only briefly. Crowl pointed out that antimatter technology itself is developing rapidly. Ultra-high intensity lasers may soon allow it to be directly created from energy, and useful amounts may be trapped in the magnetic fields of planets like Earth and Saturn. But, like dark energy, antimatter may prove to be more trouble than it's worth. "Using antimatter right now is very expensive," Millis said. "But that doesn't mean that it always will be." When mankind finally travels to the stars, we may have to forgo warp speed for something else, such as the manipulation of space-time itself. According to Albert Einstein, nothing in the universe can travel faster than the speed of light. But Millis points out that such limits do not necessarily apply to space-time.

Theories in peer-reviewed journals explore the possibility of surrounding a craft with a bubble of space-time that expands and contracts, perhaps allowing it to exceed the speed of light. "It's the difference between moving a pencil across a piece of paper or moving the whole paper," Millis said. The crew often traveled to a planet by transporter, beaming from the Enterprise directly to the surface by way of machines that could scan a body, atom-by-atom, and then recreate it in another place. Recent advances have been made in quantum teleportation, but Obousy and Millis both stressed the difference from "Star Trek"-style travel. In quantum teleportation, "it's not the same photon you started out with, but a replica," said Obousy. Such travel would require enormous precision.

  "If you were going to recreate a human being transported from one place to another, you'd want to make sure everything's in the exact place," he said. Millis suggested that, rather than matter transmission, scientists might one day learn how to utilize very small wormholes for travel. "Of course, if you put mass through it, it might make the wormhole collapse," he noted. Ultimately, the greatest challenge to replicating the Star Trek journeys may not come from the technological front. "One of the things that I really liked about watching [the show] was the very good behavior of the crew," Millis said.

"The prejudices and petty human differences that make up so much of television are pretty much absent. When I think about relative impossibilities, I think it will be easier to make technology for the starship Enterprise than to finally make humans behave that honorably."


Interestingly enough, it is the Higgs that allows for these future realities to happen.

Scientists at Europe's CERN research center have found a new subatomic particle, a basic building block of the universe, which appears to be the boson imagined and named half a century ago by theoretical physicist Peter Higgs. "We have reached a milestone in our understanding of nature," CERN director general Rolf Heuer told a gathering of scientists and the world's media near Geneva on Wednesday.

"The discovery of a particle consistent with the Higgs boson opens the way to more detailed studies, requiring larger statistics, which will pin down the new particle's properties, and is likely to shed light on other mysteries of our universe." Two independent studies of data produced by smashing proton particles together at CERN's Large Hadron Collider produced a convergent near-certainty on the existence of the new particle. It is unclear that it is exactly the boson Higgs foresaw, which by bestowing mass on other matter helps explain the way the universe was ordered after the chaos of Big Bang.

But addressing scientists assembled in the CERN auditorium, Heuer posed them a question: "As a layman, I would say I think we have it. Would you agree?" A roar of applause said they did. For some, there was no doubt the Higgs boson is found: "It's the Higgs," said Jim Al-Khalili of Surrey University, a British physicist and popular broadcaster. "The announcement from CERN is even more definitive and clear-cut than most of us expected. "Nobel prizes all round." Higgs, now 83, from Edinburgh University was among six theorists who in the early 1960s proposed the existence of a mechanism by which matter in the universe gained mass.

Higgs himself argued that if there were an invisible field responsible for the process, it must be made up of particles. He and some of the others were at CERN to welcome news of what, to the embarrassment of many scientists, some commentators have labelled the "God particle", for its role in turning the Big Bang into an ordered universe. Clearly overwhelmed, his eyes welling up, Higgs told the symposium of fellow researchers: "It is an incredible thing that it has happened in my lifetime." Scientists see confirmation of his theory as accelerating investigations into the still unexplained "dark matter" they believe pervades the universe and into the possibility of a fourth or more dimensions, or of parallel universes. It may help in resolving contradictions between their model of how the world works at the subatomic level and Einstein's theory of gravity. END OF AN ERA "It is very satisfying," Higgs told Reuters.

"For me personally it's just the confirmation of something I did 48 years ago," he said of the achievement of the thousands who labored on the practical experimental work which had, finally, confirmed what he and others had described with mathematics. "I had no expectation that I would still be alive when it happened," he said of the speed with which they found evidence. "For physics, in one way, it is the end of an era in that it completes the Standard Model," he said of the basic theory physicists currently use to describe what they understand so far of a cosmos built from 12 fundamental particles and four forces. CERN's Large Hadron Collider is the world's biggest and most powerful particle accelerator.

Two beams of protons are fired in opposite directions around the 27-km (17-mile) looped pipe built under the Swiss-French border before smashing into each other. The collisions, which mimic the moments just after the Big Bang, throw off debris signals picked up by a vast complex of detectors and the data is examined by banks of computers. The two separate CERN teams worked independently through that data, hunting for tiny divergences which might betray the existence of the new boson, a class of particle that includes the photon, associated with light. The class is named in honor of Albert Einstein's Indian collaborator Satyendra Nath Bose. Both teams found strong signals of the new particle at around 125 to 126 gigaelectron volts (GeV) - a unit of mass-energy.

That makes it some 130-140 times heavier than a proton. Scientists struggling to explain the theory have likened Higgs particles to a throng of paparazzi photographers; the greater the "celebrity" of a passing particle, the more the Higgs bosons get in its way and slow it down, imparting it mass; but a particle such as a photon of light is of no interest to the paparazzi and passes through easily - a photon has no mass. Presenting the results, Joe Incandela at CERN showed off two peaks on a graph of debris hitting the detectors, which he said revealed the hitherto unseen presence of the enigmatic particle. "That is what we are sure is the Higgs," a CERN scientist said. LESS THAN ONE IN A MILLION "It's a boson!" headlined Britain's Science and Technology Facilities Council in a statement on the role its researchers had played in the delivery of the "dramatic 5 sigma signal" for the existence of the long-sought particle.

Five sigma, a measure of probability reflecting a less than one in a million chance of a fluke in the data, is a widely accepted standard for scientists to agree the particle exists. "The fact that both our teams have independently come to the same results is very powerful," Oliver Buchmueller, a senior physicist on one of the research teams, told Reuters. "We know it is a new boson. But we still have to prove definitively that it is the one that Higgs predicted." "If I were a betting man, I would bet that it is the Higgs. But we can't say that definitely yet. It is very much a smoking duck that walks and quacks like the Higgs. But we now have to open it up and look inside before we can say that it is indeed the Higgs." Al-Khalili said the researchers' caution was extreme: "Cutting through all the jargon about sigmas and decay channels, the bottom line is that CERN have indeed discovered the Higgs boson," he said.

"In my view, if it looks like the Higgs, smells like the Higgs and is exactly what we expected from the Higgs, then it's the Higgs." UNIVERSAL THEORY The Higgs theory explains how particles clumped together to form stars, planets and life itself. Without the Higgs boson, the universe would have remained a formless soup of particles shooting around at the speed of light, the theory goes. It is the last undiscovered piece of the Standard Model that describes the fundamental make-up of the universe.

The model is for physicists what the theory of evolution is for biologists. What scientists do not yet know from the latest findings is whether the particle they have discovered is the Higgs boson as exactly described by the Standard Model. It could be a variant of the Higgs idea or an entirely new subatomic particle that could force a rethink on the fundamental structure of matter. The last two possibilities are, in scientific terms, even more exciting. Packed audiences of particle physicists, journalists, students and even politicians filled conference rooms in Geneva, London and a major physics conference in Melbourne, Australia, to hear the announcement.

Despite the excitement, physicists cautioned that there was still much to learn: "We have closed one chapter and opened another," said Peter Knight of Britain's Institute of Physics. Paul Nurse, president of Britain's science academy The Royal Society, said: "This is a big day for science and for human achievement ... Today moves us a step closer to a fuller understanding of the very stuff of which the universe is made." Higgs himself called it a great achievement for CERN's collider. Without it, his ideas would remain just a paper theory and he conceded that he personally was never cut out for laboratory experimentation: "I certainly did some lab work as a schoolboy in Bristol," he told Reuters. "I was incompetent."

Scientists at Cern will announce that the elusive Higgs boson 'God Particle' has been found at a press conference next week, it is believed. Five leading theoretical physicists have been invited to the event on Wednesday - sparking speculation that the particle has been discovered. Scientists at the Large Hadron Collider are expected to say they are 99.99 per cent certain it has been found - which is known as 'four sigma' level.




Peter Higgs, the Edinburgh University emeritus professor of physics that the particle is named after, is among those who have been called to the press conference in Switzerland. The management at Cern want the two teams of scientists to reach the 'five sigma' level of certainty with their results - so they are 99.99995 per cent sure - such is the significance of the results. Tom Kibble, 79, the emeritus professor of physics at Imperial College London, has also been invited but is unable to attend. He told the Sunday Times: 'My guess is that is must be a pretty positive result for them to be asking us out there.' The Higgs boson is regarded as the key to understanding the universe. Physicists say its job is to give the particles that make up atoms their mass. Without this mass, these particles would zip though the cosmos at the speed of light, unable to bind together to form the atoms that make up everything in the universe, from planets to people. The collider, housed in an 18-mile tunnel buried deep underground near the French-Swiss border, smashes beams of protons – sub-atomic particles – together at close to the speed of light, recreating the conditions that existed a fraction of a second after the Big Bang. If the physicists’ theory is correct, a few Higgs bosons should be created in every trillion collisions, before rapidly decaying.

This decay would leave behind a ‘footprint’ that would show up as a bump in their graphs. However, despite 1,600 trillion collisions being created in the tunnel - there have been fewer than 300 potential Higgs particles. Now it is thought that two separate teams of scientists, who run independent experiments in secret from each other, have both uncovered evidence of the particle. However, the two groups, CMS and ATLAS, are expected to stop short of confirming its existence.

Physicists using Europe's Large Hadron Collider say they haven't seen any microscopic black holes yet — and perhaps they never will. The most they can say right now is that if they exist, the exotic objects would have to have a mass of more than 3.5 trillion electron volts. Some flavors of string theory have suggested that micro-black holes could be created at the LHC if the universe has "rolled-up" dimensions in addition to the three space dimensions plus time with which we're familiar. In such a universe, the force of gravity might become dramatically stronger at very small distances, and colliding particles occasionally could create an energy density large enough to produce a black hole for just an instant of time. Two years ago, CERN theoretical physicist Michelangelo Mangano told me that the black-hole scenario was a long shot. "In order for the LHC to produce some of these black holes, we really have to go beyond the normal theory of gravity," he said at the time. "We have to assume that there are extra dimensions. By the way, there are many theories that have extra dimensions. Not all of them would give rise to black holes at the LHC. It's only highly fine-tuned ones that make this possible." So it's not correct to say that the lack of black holes suggests string theory is a failure. In fact, string theory covers so many possibilities that another theoretical physicist, Arizona State University's Lawrence Krauss, jokes that it's a "theory of anything" rather than a theory of everything. But the latest findings do eliminate some of the theoretical models, which is a useful exercise. The current state of things is described in a draft paper submitted to Physics Letters this week by the team analyzing data from the LHC's Compact Muon Solenoid detector, or CMS. It's also summarized in a statement from CERN. The CMS collaboration is due to take much more data next year, and Nature's Geoff Brumfiel quotes CMS spokesperson Guido Tonelli as saying the LHC should be able to exclude the creation of black holes almost entirely by the end of the next run. For years, the LHC's critics have worried that microscopic black holes would somehow spin out of control, despite physicists' reassurances that such a doomsday scenario runs counter to theory as well as observations. The latest findings demonstrate that it's harder to create a black hole than some theoretical physicists may have thought. But the bottom line remains the same: DON'T PANIC.

Point being, they are not going to find it. The real question is, what is the metaphysical damage that they are inflicting onto Mankind? For anyone who has seen Star Trek, those are the scenarios that are spoken of in association of the Geneva Collider: Black Holes [on Earth], Time Travel, Worm Holes, Space-Time Continuum, etc.

Whatever its worth, the Collider is either an expensive dud or a super metaphysical wrecking machine. I believe the former but something says the latter is behind a neo-chaos theory superimposed reality, that is causing natural disasters upon Mankind through the hands of Mankind.

Scientists are clearly manipulating Reality, so is Hashem manipulating reality through Man as opposed to nature? For example, the Euro problem is really a Black Hole if you look at it the right way. Banking in America is a virtual Tsunami, etc. Is Hashem bringing plagues to Man by the shortcomings of Man, as opposed to rogue natural disasters through nature? Is Man bringing the End of Days Prophecies into fruition?

Physicists investigating the make-up of the universe are closing in on the Higgs boson, an elusive particle thought to have been key to turning debris from the Big Bang into stars, planets and finally life, scientists said on Tuesday. Researchers at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) are using their large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world's biggest particle accelerator, to try to prove that the mystery particle really exists. Poring over huge volumes of data, CERN physicists are confident they are now closer to achieving that aim, outside scientists with links to two key research teams at the Switzerland-based facility said. "They are getting quite fired up," one scientist outside CERN but with links to the experiment who declined to be named told Reuters. Strong signs of the Higgs were being seen in the same energy range where it was tentatively spotted last year, the scientists added, even though the particle is so short-lived that it can only be detected by the traces it leaves. The quest for the obscure but scientifically crucial Higgs boson is being conducted by harnessing the LHC's high energy accelerator, which is located on the edge of Geneva, to replicate the Big Bang, the process scientists believe brought the known universe into being. The Higgs is named after Briton Peter Higgs who in 1964 first came up with a detailed idea of what it might be and is the last major missing piece in the so-called Standard Model of how the universe works at the elementary particle level. Its formal discovery, once it is endorsed by the world scientific community, would almost certainly ensure a Nobel prize for Higgs, now 83 and retired, and perhaps for at least one other European physicist and one American. Speculation The scientists spoke of their CERN colleagues' progress after research chiefs at the Swiss facility decreed a cut-off last weekend in the processing of all data related to the search for the particle ahead of a major physics conference, ICHEP, in Melbourne in mid-July. There has been widespread speculation that a major announcement on the Higgs, based on careful analysis of the most interesting of over 300 trillion proton collisions in the LHC so far this year, may be made at that gathering. But there was no confirmation from CERN itself that it was close to formally announcing it had discovered the particle and its linked energy field, thought to have given mass to matter and shape to the universe 13.7 billion years ago. Researchers on the collider's separate ATLAS and CMS detectors have been "blinded" - or cut off from findings from the rival team and even from different groups inside their own. CERN spokesman James Gillies said the centre would want to make any important announcement, once there was something to say, in Geneva. "As for what ATLAS and CMS may or may not have in the 2012 data, that's only known to a few people in each experiment right now," he added. "Blinding" is used in science to ensure that different groups working on identical experiments but with different if similar equipment do not influence the outcome of each other's research. If they then come to the same conclusion, they can safely be seen to have independently validated each other's results, clearing the way to actually claiming a discovery. In December 2011, after some 16 months of collisions at lower energy levels than this year, both teams joined at CERN to say they had separately seen "tantalizing glimpses" of the Higgs but needed more time to be sure if it was really there. Data still coming in after last weekend's analysis cut-off will be processed later in the summer. Physicists say that more than half of the collisions produce nothing of scientific value and the record of their tracks are automatically dumped.

George Soros delivered a speech today in Trento, Italy today on the Eurozone crisis and it's an absolute dynamo. You really ought to read the whole speech, which is on his personal webpage, as it starts off with an overview of his economic theories (which revolve around the idea that markets are deeply imperfect and prone to turn into bubbles based on human fallability and lack of knowledge) and then nicely explains how all of this explains the current crisis in Europe. What's fantastic is that he really gets it from all angles. This is a really killer characterization of the Eurozone: I contend that the European Union itself is like a bubble. In the boom phase the EU was what the psychoanalyst David Tuckett calls a “fantastic object” – unreal but immensely attractive. The EU was the embodiment of an open society –an association of nations founded on the principles of democracy, human rights, and rule of law in which no nation or nationality would have a dominant position. The process of integration was spearheaded by a small group of far sighted statesmen who practiced what Karl Popper called piecemeal social engineering. They recognized that perfection is unattainable; so they set limited objectives and firm timelines and then mobilized the political will for a small step forward, knowing full well that when they achieved it, its inadequacy would become apparent and require a further step. The process fed on its own success, very much like a financial bubble. That is how the Coal and Steel Community was gradually transformed into the European Union, step by step. Germany used to be in the forefront of the effort. When the Soviet empire started to disintegrate, Germany’s leaders realized that reunification was possible only in the context of a more united Europe and they were willing to make considerable sacrifices to achieve it. When it came to bargaining they were willing to contribute a little more and take a little less than the others, thereby facilitating agreement. At that time, German statesmen used to assert that Germany has no independent foreign policy, only a European one. And then came the moment that German, formerly at the forefront of a federated Europe, stopped the progress dead in its tracks... The process culminated with the Maastricht Treaty and the introduction of the euro. It was followed by a period of stagnation which, after the crash of 2008, turned into a process of disintegration. The first step was taken by Germany when, after the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers, Angela Merkel declared that the virtual guarantee extended to other financial institutions should come from each country acting separately, not by Europe acting jointly. It took financial markets more than a year to realize the implication of that declaration, showing that they are not perfect. This is a really huge point to grasp, because a nagging question has been: Why did the market think of Spain/Greece/Italy/Etc. as being risk-free sovereigns at one point, and then decide that they were not risk free and subject to credit risk. Soros answer: Because they were essentially risk-free so long as the arc was always towards more integration. That ended when Merkel made the declaration he says above. This is key. Despite the fact that the Euro crisis has been happening for at least 3 years now, there are still many who can't articulate the roots of it as well as Soros does in these two paragraphs: The Maastricht Treaty was fundamentally flawed, demonstrating the fallibility of the authorities. Its main weakness was well known to its architects: it established a monetary union without a political union. The architects believed however, that when the need arose the political will could be generated to take the necessary steps towards a political union. But the euro also had some other defects of which the architects were unaware and which are not fully understood even today. In retrospect it is now clear that the main source of trouble is that the member states of the euro have surrendered to the European Central Bank their rights to create fiat money. They did not realize what that entails – and neither did the European authorities. When the euro was introduced the regulators allowed banks to buy unlimited amounts of government bonds without setting aside any equity capital; and the central bank accepted all government bonds at its discount window on equal terms. Commercial banks found it advantageous to accumulate the bonds of the weaker euro members in order to earn a few extra basis points. That is what caused interest rates to converge which in turn caused competitiveness to diverge. Germany, struggling with the burdens of reunification, undertook structural reforms and became more competitive. Other countries enjoyed housing and consumption booms on the back of cheap credit, making them less competitive. Then came the crash of 2008 which created conditions that were far removed from those prescribed by the Maastricht Treaty. Many governments had to shift bank liabilities on to their own balance sheets and engage in massive deficit spending. These countries found themselves in the position of a third world country that had become heavily indebted in a currency that it did not control. Due to the divergence in economic performance Europe became divided between creditor and debtor countries. This is having far reaching political implications to which I will revert. His key warning: In my judgment the authorities have a three months’ window during which they could still correct their mistakes and reverse the current trends. By the authorities I mean mainly the German government and the Bundesbank because in a crisis the creditors are in the driver’s seat and nothing can be done without German support. He ends with a plea: We need to do whatever we can to convince Germany to show leadership and preserve the European Union as the fantastic object that it used to be. The future of Europe depends on it.

Rolf-Dieter Heuer, director of CERN where the LHC is based, said he was confident that by the end of the year it will be possible to say whether the Higgs Boson, the particle which is responsible for giving mass to the universe, exists. The theoretical particle, nicknamed the God Particle due to its central role it has in explaining modern physics, has never been detected and scientists have been working for decades to prove its existence. Scientists hope that high energy collisions of particles in the 17 mile underground tunnel at CERN will finally allow them to create the conditions to allow them to spot the elusive Higgs Boson. Dr Heuer, who was speaking at the Hay Festival, said the LHC is scheduled to be closed down at the end of this year for up to two years in order to carry out upgrades that will increase its power and allow it to continue with more experiments. For the first time the LHC will also be opened to the public, who will be allowed to walk through the underground tunnel that straddles the French-Swiss border. Once the existence of Higgs Boson is known, there will be further work to prove its properties and understand the origins of the universe. Dr Heuer said: "If the Large Hadron Collider continues to work I know we have enough collisions to produce enough signals to identify the Higgs Boson. “We will know by the end of this year whether it exists or whether it is non-existent. This would be a huge discovery that after 50 years we are able to describe the visible universe. "We will have taken a big step forward about our knowledge of the physical world. It will help us to understand the creation of the universe." CERN require a high level of proof and will only announce that the Higgs Boson exists when there is just a one in three million chance they are wrong. Dr Heuer said the discovery of the Higgs Boson will also help investigations into this wider universe. The visible universe only makes up 5 per cent and the rest is 'dark energy' and 'dark matter'. He said it was impossible to imagine at this stage how the knowledge of the particle could be applied to practical applications but pointed to previous discoveries have led to developments in medicine and the internet. “Whatever basic science resolves, at some stage it is of use to society. The problem is we do not know when or where.” The search for the God Particle has proved controversial. Critics feared the Large Hadron Collider could create a massive black hole that would "swallow the Earth". Religious groups have also questioned the search for a particle at the origins of the universe. Dr Heuer admitted that "micro black holes" may be created in the Large Hadron Collider but he insisted this was safe as they would decay almost immediately and it could even be good for science as it shows that micro black holes are occurring all the time. He has had meetings with the Pope and insisted that the interface where science ends and religion or philosophy begins is changing all the time.

The Moshiach...I Mean The God Particle Is Due This Year!



I thought it was only the Geulah Bloggers who counted down the Time of the End and gave Messianic dates as a guarantee. Well, I was wrong, the mad scientists are guilty of it too. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the scientific / kabbalistic worlds are parallel and that the same date-giving loathing exists there too! (The Vilna Gaon does say Science and Kabalah will merge by the End of Days!)

So here it is, the date has been predicted of when we will find God...yadda yadda yadda. I might as well interject with a Geulah date Prophecy and keep up with the Jones'

A WEST Belfast-born engineer who is director of accelerators and technology at the Cern particle physics laboratory in Geneva has predicted that one of the key secrets of the universe will be discovered in a matter of months. Dr Stephen Myers told an engineers’ conference in Belfast yesterday that evidence for the existence or non-existence of the Higgs boson – the so-called God particle – could be discovered as early as August and by October at the latest. The Higgs boson was the remaining “big building block” to be discovered in terms of how to explain mass, said Dr Myers, during the course of his keynote lecture to the Engineers Ireland conference at the Europa Hotel in Belfast, and in an interview with The Irish Times. “It completes the standard model for mass,” he said. During the course of his lecture on the 27km Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at Cern, Dr Myers told the engineers that ongoing experiments at the collider should provide the answer as to whether the Higgs boson does or does not exist. He believed evidence would be found for its existence and this in turn would provide further important insights into the Big Bang, the creation of the universe, that scientists say happened about 13.7 billion years ago. “If it does not exist there will be enough data to show that the Higgs is excluded and that there must be another mechanism for mass. I am confident that we will find the Higgs by August or September of this year,” he said. Dr Myers said a very high standard of proof was required. “You only declare a discovery when you can say there is only a one in a million chance that you are wrong,” he said. He believed that Cern would establish proof for the Higgs boson to a standard of a “one in two million chance of being wrong”.


Now they got me wondering if every sect of Wisdom is doing the same thing?!

Science: This year we will find the God Particle!

God and His Particles - A Gateway to Redemption?



Last year we were acquainted with two scenarios: A fired up Super Collider in Geneva, determined to find God, while pouring out previously unprecedented levels of Power, while at the same time, the World was going through Arab Spring and enduring what looked to be Universal Change like never before.

Now the Collider is getting set into its season of new never seen before energies, which happens to be taking place in 2012. Will the World cosmically respond with a breakthrough in Lights of Redemption? The Summers of 2010 and 2011 were action packed with Messianic Hope, and now we have come to the big one of 5772. My thoughts are as they always have been: the Collider generates Metaphysical changes in upper dimensions, namely in Time and beyond...which I feel can be a vehicle for Hashem to employ Man as an agent to change the World. Physics on a whole new level may be what the Vilna Gaon predicted as a merging of Kabbalah and Science. Perhaps we will live this out this year.



Over the weekend, physicists and engineers at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) nudged proton beam energies to a new record: 4 Tera-electron volts (TeV). This record comes shortly after CERN announced last month they'd be cranking up the juice through 2012.

Now their goal of 4 TeV has been achieved, CERN aims to collide the first protons at this energy in April. As the LHC collides protons head-on, the counter-circulating protons speeding around the 11-mile ring of supercooled electromagnets under the France-Swiss border will have an effective collision energy of 8 TeV (double the beam energy).

Although these collision energies are impressive, the LHC still isn't operating at its designed maximum. In 2014, after the facility's routine 20-month shutdown, physicists hope that they will be ready to push beam energies to 7 TeV -- culminating in collision energies of 14 TeV.

Big Question for 2012: Is the Higgs Boson Real?

With larger collision energies comes the promise of uncovering new physics. But first on the list of "Cosmic Mysteries to Solve" is to discover the Higgs boson -- the long-theorized (and much-hyped) subatomic particle believed to endow all matter in the Universe with mass. Tantalizing hints of the Higgs are beginning to show in the huge quantity of data being spewed by the LHC and the vast archive of data from the recently retired U.S. Tevatron particle accelerator.

Should the Higgs be confirmed to exist (which is becoming more and more likely as the predicted Higgs signal gets stronger), even more exciting discoveries await as the LHC embarks on a new era of high-energy physics.

Colliding With 2012!



It seems the more they collide, the stranger the World gets (reacts).

They are set for unprecedented levels of output in The Large Hadron Collider -

Why do the Physicists and seemingly every other branch of Wisdom insanely focus on 2012 as a target date?

-Searching For God [Particle] in 2012...will it yield a Godly Response?

More scientists are getting closer in the search for the "God particle" of physics that would help explain the fundamentals of the universe, but they haven't found it yet.
In the hunt for the Higgs boson, which is key to understanding why matter has mass, two teams of physicists using results from a now-closed American accelerator have come up with similar findings to those announced late last year by researchers at the more powerful Large Hadron Collider in Europe.
I don't think there's any place for the Higgs to hide. We'll know the answer one way or another by the end of 2012.

While the scientists using the two accelerators have not found the elusive subatomic particle, they both have narrowed the area where it can be found, if it exists. And they know where it isn't.
Work done in the Tevatron collider at the Fermi National Lab near Chicago provides important independent confirmation of the getting-closer announcement last year by CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research near Geneva, researchers said. The results from work by more than 800 scientists were to be announced in Italy on Wednesday.
"Globally the world is starting to see a consistent picture," said Fermi physicist Rob Roser, a spokesman for one team. "I don't think there's any place for the Higgs to hide. We'll know the answer one way or another by the end of 2012."
Roser said just because they have seen hints of the Higgs, it's not enough. "I'm not even willing to bet your house on it, let alone mine," he said Tuesday.
At Fermi, two teams independently used the accelerator in different ways. Two other teams in Europe used the Large Hadron Collider. Fermi's Tevatron collides protons and antiprotons together, while CERN smashes protons together. That means four different groups using different techniques and equipment have come to the same general conclusion.
Still, that's not certain enough for scientists to even call it evidence, Roser said.
While the results from Fermi's collider aren't as precise as CERN's, they are important because they give the European results more credence, Harvard University physicist Gary Feldman said.
The Tevatron closed in September, so it is likely that the final discovery of the Higgs will be in Europe, Roser said.
The Higgs, first hypothesized 40 years ago, is important to physics because it is crucial to the standard model theory that helps explain the six particles that make up the universe, Roser and Feldman said. Without it, there is no explanation for why the particles have mass.
"It would be a triumph of the theory to actually see that it happens," Feldman said.
