Jerusalem: Having sealed a coalition deal after strenuous weeks of negotiations, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will see the new government being sworn into Knesset on Monday.

With only 22 ministers in the new coalition, this will be the smallest Israeli cabinet in decades.

The 33rd government of Israel would consist of the centrist Yesh Atid and HaTnuah and the pro-settler Jewish Home other than Netanyahu’s Likud-Yisrael Beitenu alliance.

Lapid and Bennett forced the prime minister to keep the ultra-Orthodox parties, his traditional ally, out of the coalition. It is only the second time in the past 35 years that they have been in the opposition.

The coalition deal was reached after six long weeks of discussion after Netanyahu’s win in January 22 elections.

The interior ministry will be in hands of Likud, while Yesh Atid will handle five portfolios - including finance and education - and Jewish Home will have three, said a BBC report.

The report adds that Yair Lapid, who leads Yesh Atid - will be named finance minister and Naftali Bennett of Jewish Home, will be economic and trade minister.

Mr Netanyahu is expected to act as foreign minister as Avigdor Lieberman, is mired in a trial dealing with charges of fraud and breach of trust.

The defence ministry will be headed by former IDF chief of staff, Moshe Yaalon, a Likud member. Moshe Yaalon, a former army commando, has said Iran’s suspect nuclear program is Israel’s top security concern, though he has been vague about whether Israel might carry out a military strike on Iran.

Israel believes that Iran is trying to develop a nuclear weapon — a charge that Tehran denies. Mr. Netanyahu repeatedly has hinted that Israel might strike Iran’s nuclear facilities if it concludes that international sanctions and diplomacy have failed to curb the Iranian nuclear program. Israel considers a nuclear-armed Iran a mortal threat, citing Iranian calls for Israel’s destruction and its support for anti-Israel militant groups.

Israel’s new government’s swearing in comes just two days ahead of US President Barack Obama’s visit.

Obama’s visit may urge Netanyahu to take tough decisions regarding the Palestine issue.

The biggest partner in his coalition, the centrist Yesh Atid party, has demanded the new government make a serious attempt to restart talks.

At the same time, Netanyahu’s own Likud-Yisrael Beytenu bloc is dominated by hard-liners who oppose major concessions to the Palestinians. Another partner, the Jewish Home party, is linked to the settler movement and would reject any attempts to freeze construction, much less hand over West Bank territory to the Palestinians.

The late slain Rabbi Meir Kahane (who may have been the potential Moshiach ben Yosef of the previous generation) used to say that "The Haredim are IRRELEVANT!".

And despite their burgeoning numbers, the Haredi influence on events is actually in decline and they are literally becoming TOTALLY irrelevant! Witness for the first time in decades the Haredim now having no say at all in the running of Israel.

This is a sure sign of Hashem's great disfavour with them, primarily because of their continued keeness in wanting to hand over parts of the Holy Land to the Yishmaelites in exchange for.....money and cabinet seats!

In the absence of wise genuine Gedolim, the 1.5 million of the Haredi and Hassidic Movements as we have known them may actually be getting ready to implode and disappear, or else quickly morph in to something either very good or something extremely evil. Remember that all the disloyal groups (eg Saducees, Xtians, Boethusians, Shabatteans, Frankists, Yevzektziya, Reformers, Maskilim, Secular Zionists, Yiddishists, Bundists, Assimilationists, Anarchists, Neturei Karta etc) in Jewish history all started off from Torah-observant Jews!

True to what Klishlisi says, but, in the meantime, if you really see the core of why they want (with desperation) the chareidim out, it is very clear that it is because they want TORAH yahadut out of the picture in the State. They only want them conscripted to water down their religiousity. These frumme (not talking about the crazies of Neturei Karta, sikrikim, etc.) are the ones who have kept Judaism alive throughout the centuries. The original real pioneers/settlers who made aliyah in the 18th & 19th centuries and before were also called chareidim and the chareidim today are their descendants! To mock them or show disdain for them is a chilul. If the intentions of the government of Israel was pure and they would truly want to make it an Israel that we can all agree on; then they would not fight Jewish law and also love every Jew and holy Eretz Yisrael. To the leadership, Israel is just another piece of real estate. Many of today's chareidim might very well be the gilgulim of the spies in the desert and their followers, who were satisfied learning Torah in the desert (as I've read). There has to be a middleground where love of Hashem, Torah, Jews and Eretz Yisrael are one. Just as the return of the Jewish people back to EY was born out of the erev rav's plan to make a state, maybe, now this is the way H' is paving the way for Moshiach!

When HaRav Meir Kahane, H' yinkom damo, said the chareidim are 'irrelevant', I think what he meant is that they are on the outside of the fight between him and the memshalah. The chareidim were not concerned (and at that time were not as many as today) with the politics that didn't concern them, as long as they were being left alone and not bothered or dictated to in regards to Torah, religious laws and their way of life. That is what the Rav, ztl, meant; not that they didn't matter. They do live in a world of their own and today's attack on them is quite different, and is wrong. The media has spun such loshon horah on 'religion', in general, and with the non-Jewish education in the public schools, the youth of Israel (those not from religious homes) don't know anything, r'l, and now have, with the help of their secular parents, the worst opinion of the chareidim. This is what 2000 years of golus has done - deep divisions within the Jewish people. Just as the rebbes after WWII understood what the goals were of those who created the state, understand today that their goal of secularization is speeding up. They understand better than most!

This is going to be very interesting to some people I know. Printing it, for them. Thanks Rabbi Katz.
